It's no secret that this is my favourite noodle place. I would recommend the 京都炸醬麵 as well but the portions are pretty pathetic. I felt like a kid eating it because the bowl was small and made of melamine. But I haven't found an item that sucks. Well, probably the kailan actually. Because I feel that they overcook it such that the leafy parts are kinda soggy and soft. I love the stems part though!
All right, so what new information do I have? I took their name card recently so yeah.
Opening hours: 12-12.30am (OMG didn't know they close so late!)
Address: 51 Parkes Street, Ground Floor (previously mentioned)
Telephone number: 2736 5561 (no idea why you would want to call them though!)
Website: www.makmankee.com (keep your earphones volume down! the fire crackers are DEAFENING! and i didn't even wear my ear phones)
Mak Man Kee is also awarded the Caring Company Logo from 2007-2010. I don't know what is the significance of this award but I'm guessing it's pretty awesome, tying up with social services and whatnot. No wonder this place gives me good vibes, lol.

I decided to add a new section to this blog: Face-off! It's basically comparing "apple" to "apple" and see which "apple" is nicer. First "apple" is 燉奶, steamed milk pudding. The 2 contenders are from Yee Shun Milk Company 義順牛奶公司 and Australia Dairy Company 澳洲牛奶公司.
The winner is Yee Shun Milk Company 義順牛奶公司!
Pros: Smoother, more refreshing, less sweet, didn't feel sick of it after eating half a bowl, colder, more refreshing (it's repeated, i know. that's the point)
Cons: More expensive by HKD2 (for those penny-pinchers out there)

Just stick to the 快餐 set on the wall of Australia Dairy Company 澳洲牛奶公司 and you'll be safe. Drink the cold milk, don't eat it.

The simplicity of this place is attractive to me. It's clean and uncluttered. Best of all, they are healthy. This means, they sell healthy RICE! (Yes, just the rice cos the dishes are fried and all, not that healthy). You can choose multi-grain rice or rice with bits of vegetables inside or just plain rice. This is for the rice set meals. It comes with a dessert so the choices vary depending on how much more you wanna top-up. I'm sure you can skip this dessert option too.
There's also a soup dish. 1 or 2 items in soup with 米粉,麵線,etc. 3 kinds of soup bases - Chicken, tomato and spicy (I think it's spicy, not sure). Dessert choices vary, again, depending on how much more you are willing to pay.
It's been a pleasant experience eating here because it's quiet, healthy (albeit deceptively) and clean. People leave you alone too (still harping on the Australia Dairy Company experiences, lol)
Yay or Nay? Yay.
But? It's not as healthy as you think.
To try? I guess most things are okay. My experiences have been okay though nothing specific really wow-ed me.

Every time I go to this place, I feel a lil' stressed because everything happens SO QUICKLY. They will keep harassing you to order quickly so they can serve quickly so you can scoot quickly. This is not a place for you to dilly-dally over the menu or they will just ignore you (when you are finally ready to order). I guess their reasoning is: Since you wanna take your time to place your order, I'm gonna take my time to take your order too.
So, on your first visit there, just order Set A and when your food is served, you can slowly mull over the menu. That is, if it isn't blocked by someone else's plates. Yes, this place makes sure every single seat is taken at every table even though, seriously, sometimes there are empty tables. I guess their efficiency (to put it nicely) is agreeable to some people. To me, it's just, mentally challenging and I need to rehearse my order (i.e. point to the correct item on the menu) before their gan-chiong-ness knocks the ability to speak outta me.
So set A consists of 2 eggs (sunny side up or scrambled), macaroni (with ham or beef) and 1 hot drink (coffee or tea). I'd choose scrambled, ham and tea. But it's actually too much for me so now that I'm more adept at ordering, I'll order scrambled egg toast and chilled milk (炒蛋多士and凍奶水). I highly recommend their fresh milk, if you like fresh milk to begin with.
Yay or Nay? Yay.
But? Brace yourself for seriously swift action.
To try? scrambled eggs anything and milk.

This may seem like a weird recommendation but considering how long I took before I stepped into an outlet, but returned shortly within a week, I think it's worth it. So what took me so long? The decor looks nice and clean. There were all sorts of advertisements and all kinds of set meals. These, to me, meant the place is overpriced (how else can they afford renovation?) and desperate for business (one million menus).
But it turned out to be wrong because the set meals are really worth it and yummy. I like the MSG used. This sounds totally dumb but considering how all food in HK has MSG, it's not really about the food anymore, is it? Fresh ingredients aside, the taste is enhanced by the MSG. So yeah, I decided I like a place or not based on whether the MSG is agreeable with me. It may be scientific nonsense but oh wells.
Yay or Nay? Yay.
But? Too many choices.
To try? The ones that come with free dessert (糖水) cos coffee and tea are boring.
Nearest MTR? There are too many outlets so... figure it out yourselves, haha.

Instinct led me to this little shop behind Times Square. I was drawn to it by some inexplicable force and upon seeing the Michelin rating on the glass door, I guessed it was good stuff inside. But I had not done any research on this place so I dunno what's suppose to be good. I decided to try the congee and yes, it was good! I came back to do more research online. Turns out that it's the cheapest place for a Michelin 1-star eating place in HK so you must give it a try! Both the congee and wantan noodles are highly raved.
BTW, I ordered 豬瞷肉丸粥 (Pig liver and Meat Balls Congee) and I overheard locals sitting around me ordering the same dish as well. Just like how the noodles in soup are in HK, the pig liver and meat balls have to soak in the hot congee for a while before they are fully cooked. I felt that the "heart" of my meat balls were a little raw but the last one (immersed the longest) was just nice.

But? Hmm, it's kinda far for me to try more dishes?
To try? I think the congee and noodles (soup or dry) are all safe.
Address? 2 Sharp Street East, CWB
Nearest MTR? CWB Exist A. It's on the back of Times Square. If you find yourself facing Russell Street (front of Times Square), get to the other side.
